9 Month Baby Allergen Guide: Maintaining Tolerance with Regular Exposure
By 9 months, allergens likely aren’t “new” anymore- they’re part of the rhythm. And that’s exactly the goal.
If your baby has tolerated peanut, egg, milk, wheat, sesame, soy, tree nuts, fish and shellfish, continuing to offer them regularly helps maintain tolerance. Think of it as gentle repetition, not re-testing.
This might look like:
• Peanut butter on toast fingers
• Scrambled egg pieces at breakfast
• Yoghurt with fruit
• Pasta with yoghurt-based sauce
It doesn’t have to be daily, but aiming for each allergen to be present in their reguglar diet consistently, matters. Once or twice a week per allergen is a realistic rhythm for many families.
And when you think about it- these allergen-containing foods are actually so rich in nutrients, protein and fibre, that they form the basis of a healthy diet anyway. So keeping them in shouldn’t feel as daunting as it sounds, you can just use them to plan nutritious meals around - and have a win win situation on your hands 💛
