9-Month-Old Feeding Milestones: Chewing, Pincer Grasp, and Self-Feeding Tips
Nine months is a big skill-building stage at the table.
You may notice more intentional chewing - little up-and-down jaw movements, food moving side to side in the mouth, longer pauses before swallowing. That’s coordination improving.
And those tiny fingers? The pincer grasp is getting stronger. Thumb and forefinger working together to pick up small pieces.
This means you can offer:
• Smaller, soft cubes
• Shredded meats - Try our Chicken Meatballs!
• Flaked fish - Try our amazing Mackerel Fritters or Salmon Cakes
• Soft berries squished slightly
Everything should still be soft enough to squash between your fingers.
Self-feeding might be slow and incredibly messy. But each grasp, chew, and swallow is refining a lifelong skill.
You’re watching learning happen in real time. 💛
