Everyday Allergens: How to Keep Peanut, Egg & Dairy in Your Toddler’s Diet
Allergen exposure is still on the menu, now that they’re one!
If your toddler tolerates peanut, egg, dairy, wheat, soy, sesame, nuts and/or fish- keep them in regular rotation. Ongoing exposure helps maintain tolerance long-term.
Some ways to include these in normal family meals:
• Peanut butter on toast
• Egg in fried rice (or our Lemon Ricotta Pancakes!)
• Silken tofu in their meal
• Sesame in hummus
• Fish at dinner
Unless medically advised otherwise, avoidance isn’t protective. Familiarity is.
You’ve done the careful introduction phase. Now it’s about keeping these foods ordinary.
These allergen foods can be protective (when tolerated) and exposed long term. The science proves it, so our job is to continue exposure so that we don't land up with an allergy down the road because it fell out of their rotation. Aim for once per week of a tolerated food, and you’ll be doing your little on a service of a lifetime (literally). 💛
