Starting Solids for Babies: Iron-Rich First Foods & Gentle Feeding Guide
Starting solids can feel big - but first foods don’t need to be fancy. They just need to be nourishing and developmentally appropriate.
A gentle place to begin? Iron-rich options like:
• Grass fed beef
• Lamb
• Chicken
• Lentils
You might offer these as smooth purées on a spoon, or as very soft, graspable finger foods once baby is ready. Our Beef & Sweet Potato or Lamb & Zucchini blends are designed for exactly this stage - simple, balanced, iron-forward.
From there, you can layer in variety: avocado, yoghurt, soft fruits, steamed vegetables.
Start with small amounts.
And as for how to start? One meal a day is plenty in the beginning - milk still leads the ladder of importance when it comes to their nutrient requirements.
It’s not purely about exposure, it’s about nutrition too… but let it be fun, exploratory and pressure free. The milk feeds will cover whatever their tiny body needs, and starting solids is just that - it’s starting.
