Introducing solids is an exciting milestone in your baby’s development! But with so much advice out there, it can feel overwhelming. The key is to start simple, include iron-rich foods, add fibre, trial allergens early, and keep them in rotation.
Every baby is different, and that’s okay! There’s no exact formula—your baby will help guide the way. Below, we’ve outlined a simple 7-day meal plan to get you started, along with a guide on how often to feed your baby.
How Often Should I Feed My Baby?
When starting solids, begin slowly and choose a mealtime that works best for you and your baby. Here’s a general guideline:
- Start with one meal per day – Pick a time with plenty of daylight and ideally mid-week in case you need to contact a doctor for any allergic reactions.
- Begin with small portions – Offer 1 cube of Le Puree (for puree feeding) or one piece of finger food (if doing baby-led weaning).
- Monitor for reactions – Watch for any allergic responses within minutes to hours of introducing a new food.
- Time it around milk feeds – Offer solids 30-60 minutes after a milk feed, ensuring milk remains the primary source of nutrition until 12 months.
Gradual Progression:
- Around 7 months → Increase to 2 meals per day
- By 9-10 months → Introduce a third meal
- At each meal → Gradually increase portion sizes to 3 cubes of puree or 2-3 pieces of finger food
7-Day Meal Plan for Starting Solids
Day 1: First Tastes
🟢 1 cube of First Bites Puree (choose a fruit or veggie flavour) – A simple, single-ingredient start to introduce new textures and flavours.
Day 2: Gentle on the Tummy
🟠 1 cube of Prune, Pear & Buckwheat Puree – A balance of sweet and savoury to encourage diverse tastes while aiding digestion.
Day 3: Expanding Flavours
🥦 1 cube of Broccoli, Apple & Quinoa Puree – Bold flavours help develop an adventurous palate!
Day 4: BLW & Puree Combo
🍗 Chicken, Pumpkin & Thyme Puree + Sweet Potato Rostis – Combining baby-led weaning with purees helps build coordination and confidence.
Day 5: First Allergen Exposure
🥜 Peanut Butter & Raspberry Puree – Introducing peanuts early (between 6-12 months) may help reduce allergy risk.
Day 6: Iron & Nutrients Boost
🥩 Beef, Sweet Potato & Buckwheat Puree + Zucchini Fritters – Essential iron, vitamins, and minerals to support growth.
Day 7: Dairy Allergen Introduction
🍓 First Bites Fruit Puree + Greek Yoghurt – Mixing puree with yoghurt helps introduce dairy safely.
Supporting a Healthy Start
Starting solids is about variety, exposure, and balance. Whether you choose purees, baby-led weaning, or a combination, the goal is to provide diverse flavours, textures, and nutrients in a way that works for your family.
