Feeding Frenzy: Childcare Centres Nailing Mealtime

Feeding Frenzy: Childcare Centres Nailing Mealtime

Written by: Rochelle Benjamin, Childcare Centre Expert at Reggio Emilia

Ever wondered why your little ones transform into mini food enthusiasts while they’re at their Early Learning Centre?

Well, working in the Early Learning sector for over 9 years myself, I have a few tips and tricks up our sleeves that turn meal times into a delightful affair.

First things first, routine is our not-so-secret weapon.

We've got a schedule that children can rely on, and a big part of that schedule is meal time. When they can anticipate it, eating becomes a comfortable and expected part of their daily routine. This routine isn't just about building good eating habits; it's about making food a reliable companion rather than a foe.

Then comes the fun part – communal dining.

Meal times at our centres are like small-scale parties. Children gather around, chat, and share the joy of food. It's a social event! When your little one sees their buddies munching on an array of goodies, it sparks their curiosity. The influence of their peers kicks in, creating a desire to be part of the tasty adventure.

Now, let's talk about the food itself.

We make a point to provide a mix of scrumptious and nutritious options. Fruits, veggies, and well-balanced meals are staples on our menu. By presenting a colourful array, we make healthy eating look and taste fantastic. It's not just about filling their tummies; it's about crafting a positive food experience.

Some might call it magic, but really, it's a meticulously crafted recipe for success. We're all about creating an environment where food is enjoyable, and trying new things is all the rage. It's not about coercion; it's about turning every bite into an adventure.

Breaking it down...

In summary, the reason children thrive so well at Early Learning Centre meal times boils down to a combination of routine, shared meals, and delectable options. We're in the business of creating an environment where food isn't just sustenance; it's a source of joy and discovery. It's not magic; it's simply a recipe for raising happy and healthy little eaters.
